Representation in Cinema Podcast
We host our very own podcast, Representation in Cinema, where we talk about…well, exactly that! We talk about the films that we feel are doing a great job in authentically representing Black, Brown, and Indigenous communities. Hollywood continues to present folks in these communities as caricatures, subservient to white folks, as expendable, and/or folks who are not fully complex human beings who you can relate to or understand. We put emphasis on the movies that seemingly slip through the cracks, or because of the more accurate representation go woefully unnoticed, so we put them ON notice!
if YOU feel that there’s a movie out there that’s doing a great job as far as representing Black, Brown, and Native people in a multifaceted way, we want to HEAR it! Bear in mind that while all are welcome, priority will be given to folks in these communities that can speak to these lived experiences — whether they are full of joy or full of complexity. If this is YOU, let us know that you’re interested here. It will ask you your name, contact info, availability, and what movie(s) you’d like to discuss on the podcast!
If you live outside of the Rochester area, you can be on the podcast too - we’ve got you covered - shoutout to Chris Lindstrom and Matt Austin, the team behind the Lunchador Podcast Network.
