Holiday Gift Guide Spotlight: Laurel Brown & The Little Brownie

Updated: Dec 10, 2020

At the unofficial start of the holiday season, we wanted to highlight the small businesses in our community, particularly those owned by Black people, Indigenous people, and people of color and we will be doing so through mid-December. The first in our series of featured business owners is Laurel Brown, the owner of The Little Brownie.

We asked her a few questions about herself and her business that we wanted to share with you!

What was your motivation behind starting your business?

After developing intolerances to both gluten and dairy products several years ago, I realized that there just weren't good quality baked goods out there on the shelves. Many bakeries that offered gluten free options didn't offer vegan options and vice versa. My love of food and baking turned into a passion and I wanted to show people just how good gluten free and vegan cookies could be. Living with food allergies or intolerances shouldn't mean missing out on delicious baked goods that are full of flavor and don't crumble in your hands when you eat them.

How long have you been in business?

I am a brand new business. I have only been in business since October of 2020. More time on my hands due to Covid-19 led me to jumpstart my business and finally pursue my dreams.

What’s your favorite part of running your business?

I love the actual act of baking, but what I love more is hearing from customers just how much they enjoyed my brownies and cookies. I love hearing that it was the best vegan or gluten free cookie that they've ever had. My goal is to provide a product that everyone can eat, enjoy and not regret!

1-2 Fun Facts About Yourself

Prior to becoming a baker I was a professional dancer on cruise ships.

If you'd like to learn more about the vegan and gluten free options that Laurel is selling, you can visit her website here: The Little Brownie. Note: The last day to place your order before Christmas is December 23, so order online today!

Are these NOT begging for you to purchase right now?
